Recently, we sat down with our 2023 Workplace Giving Month major prize winner, Travel Money Oz Consultant Jordan Galvao-Statton! Read on as Jordan shares his career goals, why he’s a workplace giver and what he plans on doing with his prize.
Jordan started at Travel Money Oz in February this year, keen to get a foot in the door in the travel industry and work toward becoming a travel consultant in a Flight Centre store.
He signed on to Workplace Giving when he started at FCTG, and thought it was a really great concept – regularly donate a small amount to charity while still making a big impact.
“When I started, I read through my contract, I noticed it was an option and thought it was a really smart idea,” he said.

“I haven’t seen that option at any other companies that I’ve worked for, and because it’s such a small amount I don’t notice it coming out of my pay at all, but I still know that I’m making a difference.
“It’s pretty cool that you can donate, say, $5 per month but it only costs you about $3.40, and then because FCTG doubles your donation you’re actually donating $10 to charity for about a third of the cost,” he said.
In June this year, the Flight Centre Foundation held a Workplace Giving Week competition to raise awareness about workplace giving and increase the number of Flighties who participate in Workplace Giving.
The Foundation was able to increase its workplace giving percentage by 2.5% during the week, bringing us even closer to our goal percentage.
There were three prizes up for grabs, and Jordan was lucky enough to snag the major prize – a $2,000 G adventure voucher that he plans on using for one of their Cuban tours.

“I’ve been chatting to the team at Travelwise about getting some flights booked so I can head over there at Christmas.
“There’s nowhere else in the world that’s like Cuba, I’ve always dreamed of visiting the country. I’m also a bit of a cigar enthusiast, so naturally I’m keen to indulge in a bit of the culture too…” he said.
With memories of going to the Salvos with his dad and visiting the elderly in respite centres in high school, Jordan has always had a passion for giving back to those less fortunate, which he’s glad he can continue to do through work.
“I’m a workplace giver because there’s 8 billion people in the world, every one of those people need help at one point. The less fortunate deserve our support and helping others makes me really happy”.
“Workplace giving means more to me than spending money because small gifts can go a long way,” he said.

The Flight Centre Foundation has four charity partners, and when asked which one he resonates with the most, Jordan said the Pyjama Foundation does some amazing work.
“I have a mate that has many friends who grew up in orphanages and the experiences I’ve heard have made me understand how important it is to help kids in foster care,” he said.
“I have a few hours of volunteer leave that I’m hoping to use by training to become a Pyjama Angel,” he said.
Jordan encourages everyone to get involved in Workplace Giving, and for those already involved to tell their fellow Flighties about it.
“I truly believe that most people don’t contribute simply because they don’t know it (workplace giving) exists,” he said.
“It shouldn’t be about the amount because at the end of the day, we could spend a couple of dollars anywhere, but if they knew they could use a couple of dollars to help people, everyone would do it.”
Does Jordan’s holiday sound pretty good to you?
